Avanti Driving - Parents & Logistics

Is it worth the money compared to just letting my child practice with me for 50 hours?

Professional instruction provides a structured curriculum, teaches advanced defensive driving techniques, and can reduce stress for both you and your teen. It also often qualifies for insurance discounts and in some states (but not in Florida) can be a prerequisite for a road test waiver. Studies have found a 70% reduction in crashes for new drivers who take specialized training.

How do I know the instructor is actually qualified and background-checked?

In Florida all instructors are licensed by the FLHSMV, a process that requires them to meet rigorous training and qualification standards yearly. They are professionally trained, state certified, state licensed, background-checked, and fully insured.

Will the school communicate with me about my teen's weaknesses so I can reinforce them at home?

Yes, professional instructors typically provide a debrief which can be obtained after their lesson by calling the office or, after each session - depending on time constraints - explaining what the student practiced and what they should work on during supervised practice at home.

If my teen damages the car during a lesson, am I liable for the insurance deductible?

No. All driving school vehicles are covered by the school's commercial insurance for both the student and the instructor.

While specific risk reduction statistics vary, specialized crash prevention training has shown a 70% reduction in crashes for new drivers compared to those who only take traditional drivers education.

Can I observe my teen's driving lessons?

No. In vehicle instruction is just between the teen and the instructor but, we will be happy to provide you with a progress report by calling our office at 561-338-6400.

Will the driving school teach my teen how to handle my specific car, or just theirs?

Teens will learn the fundamental mechanics of driving in the school's car. They will need to transfer these skills to your car during supervised practice with you.

How much does a professional driving lesson actually reduce the risk of a crash in the first year?
Can I sit in the back seat during the lesson to watch my teen?

This varies by school. Typically, schools are booked about two - four weeks in advance, and during peak seasons like summer, availability may be 4–6 weeks out. It is common to need minimum 48 hours' notice - excluding weekends - to cancel or reschedule and in some cases to avoid a late fee or charge.

How far in advance do I need to book, and how flexible is the cancellation policy?

No. Lessons are strictly one-on-one between the student and instructor. This reduces stress and cuts down on "backseat coaching" from parents, which can be counterproductive.

If my teen passes the test but still seems terrified, can we buy just two more hours of "confidence building" without re-enrolling in the whole course?

In Florida parents need to choose a FLHSMV certified, registered school. This is non-negotiable for meeting your state's professional training requirement and safety. You can also ask to see the State certification certificate which is within the vehicle.

Will they pick my teen up from school, or do I have to drive them to the training facility?

Many driving schools offer free home, work, or school pickup and drop-off services as long as it's within their area of instruction. However, please note picking up a student from school can cut into their instruction time due to school security systems in place, traffic, and unexpected school delays. Some schools sadly require you to come to their office to start the lesson.

My teen is a "perfectionist" and gets really upset when they make mistakes. How do the instructors handle fragile egos?

Instructors are experienced in handling a wide range of emotional responses. They are trained to be calm and encouraging, helping students relax and learn from mistakes without getting discouraged.

If my teen passes the test but still seems terrified, can we buy just two more hours of "confidence building"?

Yes, almost all schools offer single or custom lessons for any reason—including post-license confidence building.

How do I know if a driving school is legitimate?

Yes. Almost all driving schools offer single, a la carte lessons for any reason—including post-license confidence building. You do not need to re-enroll in the full beginner course.
