Avanti Driving - Driving Lessons and Instructors (What to Expect)
Will the instructor yell at me or get frustrated if I make a mistake?
Not at all. Avanti instructors are naturally patient, calm, and encouraging. We at Avanti understand that learning to drive is a stressful life skill and that teens or insecure drivers need support. During and after instruction Avanti will suggest important areas for improvement/enhancement, not criticism. Additionally, Avanti students testimonials repeatedly describe our instructors as "patient," "kind," and "supportive."
Will the instructor let me play my own music to keep me calm?
No. At Avanti we minimize in-.vehicle distractions during lessons. Our focus is on driving, not entertainment. However, instructors are very understanding of nervousness and will take steps to make you feel at ease.
How do they teach you to handle a skid or a blowout?
No. and here's the reason why: it's an advanced course on a closed course also referred to as a "skid track." A skid track allows the student to actually practice a controlled skid recovery, emergency braking, and hazard avoidance in a safe environment without the risks of being on a public road. Taking a skid/blowout course can be expensive starting at: $1,700.00+
Will they teach me how to parallel park in a way that actually works every time?
Yes we can. Parallel parking is the most failed maneuver on many US driving tests and lucky for Florida residents/drivers, parallel parking was removed from the "road test" exam decades ago. However, we suggest learning this important driving skill due to the many Florida attractions residents enjoy - to name a few - such as Delray Beach, Deerfield Beach, Mizner Park where great parking spots are available to drivers who know how to parallel park. At Avanti we offer focused, step-by-step coaching on this specific driving skill, and, sometimes even as a standalone "bootcamp" session.
Where do you offer lessons?
Avanti Driving School instructs lessons covering North Broward County up to mid-Palm Beach County. But, to give you a general idea on where we instruct - to name a few - in the following cities: Boca Raton, West Boca, Delray Beach, Deerfield, Coconut Creek, Pompano Beach, Coral Springs and Parkland. Avanti Driving School comes to you!
Yes, but only when you are ready and is determined by the Avanti instructor. At Avanti, its important that we will assess your basic vehicle control and confidence first. If everything is in order, we will gradually introduce highway driving, often starting on quieter stretches. Note: Due to heavy congested traffic during peek times and, traffic uncertainty we highly suggest freeway lessons are scheduled on weekends.

How do driving school cars differ from my parents' car?
Avanti vehicles are specially equipped with a passenger side brake, passenger-side mirror in addition to visible "student driver" signs displayed on the vehicle to alert other motorists, all mandated/FLHSMV law.
Can a driving school really help me get over my fear of highway merging?
What happens if I stall the car in the middle of an intersection?
Driving during adverse/severe weather depends on the actual weather conditions during your scheduled driving lesson time.
Will the lessons teach me how to handle driving in heavy rain or nighttime?
The instructor will calmly guide you through the process of restarting the car and safely moving it. They are trained to handle stalls and other common beginner mistakes.
What specific habits do professional instructors focus on that parents usually forget to teach?
Professional driving schools - like Avanti - provide systematic, curriculum-driven instruction with licensed, state certified, trained instructors, exposure to freeway, highway, city, night, and adverse conditions, and specific feedback. Parent-only instruction is often inconsistent, experience-dependent, and limited to familiar routes.
Will learning with a professional make me a better driver than my friends who just learned from their parents?
Not necessarily, and is dependent on what their parents taught - or - hopefully not, forgot to teach. Professional instruction provides a structured curriculum and helps develop good habits from the start. This can be more comprehensive than learning through "osmosis" with parents.
How do your instructors handle if a student driver has an anxiety attack or a panic attack behind the wheel?
Communication between the student and our instructors is of upmost importance. At Avanti we can recognize and de-escalate stressful situations. We will typically slow the pace, move to a quieter area, talk through what is happening, and stop the lesson if needed. At Avanti, we specialize in working with nervous, fearful, or first-time drivers, using calm instruction and gradual skill-building to increase confidence.
Will your instructors help me figure out the weird, confusing intersections in my specific neighborhood?
Absolutely! At Avanti we design routes - i.e., safe paths of travel - that cover specific traffic challenges within your area and tailor your lessons to the areas where you plan to drive most.
What's the difference between a driving school and parent-only instruction?
At Avanti, our instructors focus heavily on active scanning (constantly moving your eyes to check mirrors, intersections, and blind spots every 5–8 seconds), proper hand position (9 and 3 and 10 and 2) for airbag safety, effective mirror use, smooth braking and accelerating, and advanced hazard recognition. smooth inputs (gradual braking and acceleration to avoid jerky movements), following distance (the 3-second rule and 6-second rule), and space management (positioning the car to create escape routes). Where as parents - as well meaning as they are - often focus on getting from point A to point B, while instructors focus on how you read the road ahead.
