Official/Common Name: The official NY state program is the Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP). The online version is called the Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program (IPIRP) . You will also commonly hear it called a defensive driving, driver safety, or accident prevention course

What It Does: Completing an approved course can reduce up to 4 points from your driving record and is also eligible for a 10% auto insurance discount

Eligibility: Points from a violation are only eligible for reduction if the violation occurred within the last 18 months . It cannot be used if your license is already suspended or revoked
