Here are some sample questions to ask when interviewing a driving school for your driving school needs.
Remember: Experience and safety should be your number one concern when selecting a driving school for yourself, your teen, Au Pair, senior parent or loved one!
- How long has your school been in operation?
Answer: Most driving schools will give you some outrageous number of years they have been in business. Check with the DMV to find out here’s the link http://www.flhsmv.gov Also keep in mind: Driving schools here – in South Florida – open and close in a matter of months for a number reasons. Most common: Because they crashed their car(s) or, word gets out they are not state of Florida certified. All State certified schools require special training, special insurance and certifications.
- Who will be the driving school instructor?
Answer: Do you want a female or male driving school instructor? The choice is yours with Avanti! Whether you’re inquiring about lessons for yourself, your teenager, Au Pair, or senior loved one. No matter what your age is – rest assured – Avanti Driving School is a family owned and operated business since 1986 and our motto: Making the roads saver one student at a time!
- Are Your Driving Instruction Vehicles Smoke Free?
Answer: Even though some schools instructors typically smoke when not instructing, no matter how much air freshener one uses it’s impossible to mask the smell of smoke in a teaching vehicle. Our vehicles are 100% smoke free and so are our instructors! Also air-conditioned comfort – especially in South Florida – is very important not only for our instructors but our students as well!
- Are Your Driving Instructors State Certified by the State of Florida?
Answer: Absolutely!
Note: Insist on seeing the instructors’ license at your first lesson as well as Identification.
- What is the age of the driving school instructor?
Answer: Although this may seem like a silly question to ask, keep in mind some driving school instructors are not much older than the teens they teach and are not trained properly to instruct. We at Avanti have documentation for each individual instructor on their person and years of South Florida experience under our belt. Your precious cargo (your loved one) is in excellent hands with Avanti!
- Does the driving school instructor speak fluent English?
Answer: Our instructors at Avanti are very patient. Our instructors treat every student like a loved one and understand the stress that’s involved getting through the driving learning process. And, even though our Florida DMV handbooks are multi-language written, the official language in the State of Florida is English, and so are the road signs! We work with many people where their English is not too good. With Avanti it doesn’t matter as long as the student has a good comprehension of the English language, we can help you through this process to be a safe responsible driver. Note: When you go for the driver’s test most of the examiners speak English only.
- Will there be anyone else in the driving school instruction vehicle, other than the driving instructor during the driving lesson?
Answer: No! With Avanti Driving School we only instruct one-on-one.
Note: Some driving schools “share” the car with 2, 3 and at times 4 students in one vehicle. Some driving schools have their current “student” who is taking a lesson drive to pickup the next instructors student “during the current students driving lesson time”. Their philosophy is profit maximizing with other students in the car. Also we feel that is absolutely wrong to do and that it is intimidating and/or hinders the students learning experience with other people are in the car. We, at Avanti have discovered long-ago based on years of experience and from documented studies show time and time again: The best way to instruct is by doing and only one-on-one instructing which is the only way we instruct.
Furthermore, Avanti Driving School takes pride with our personalized one-on-one instruction that is customized specifically to the students individual needs. Learning by other students mistakes (with other students in the car) just doesn’t make sense to us and it shouldn’t with you.
- Does Avanti Driving School charge a flat rate for your driving instruction and/or are there any “hidden” or “extra” fees?
Answer: No, we tell everyone – up front – what the cost of the driving lesson session will be. Additionally, with Avanti driving school you can pay-as-you-go, and we don’t lock you into any contracts either like some other schools. With over 36 years of driving lesson and instruction experience we discovered early that everybody is unique in their learning process. Additionally, some driving schools add a surcharge fee or, charge a different instruction fee based on your location when they show up at your door. Some schools even try to lock you in for a certain amount of lessons by calling it a “discounted” rate AND insist you pay in advance. At Avanti driving school we don’t lock our customers into a contract, we tell our customers upfront – before you schedule your driving lesson – what the fee will be so there are no surprises or extra costs.
- Will the student be behind the wheel driving [the vehicle] during the entire driving lesson session?
Answer: YES!
When it comes to your loved ones you want the best for them and Avanti is the best in what we do. At Avanti we look at it this way: If your loved one knows how to drive safely because of our instructions then they won’t run into our love ones! Driving Safely is what it’s all about!
Note: Some schools have high-performance vehicles they use to attract individuals to use their services. Unfortunately, the students are spending the most part of the lesson as a passenger watching the instructor drive, or, the school has instructors who lack the confidence and experience to let the student “learn by doing”. At Avanti all of our students are behind the wheel from the get go!
At Avanti Auto Driving School you can take as many or as little as one single driving lesson and the rate is the same and there’s no “hidden fees”. Avanti Driving School is proud to offer full 90 and 120 minute sessions where our students learn by actually doing the driving. I’m sure you would agree that learning by watching an instructor drive just doesn’t make any sense to us and it shouldn’t with you.
These are just a few questions to ask when choosing a driving school, and remember; a schools qualifications and length of business can be easily verified online.
As a responsible parent or consumer, it’s important to do your homework before selecting your driving school of choice.
